Twitter Wants To Start Tracking Your Apps

Twitter has now updated their system to track all of the apps in your phone and then send the information back to Twitter HQ.

It isn't the most heinous of crimes but it is also not everyone's favorite thing about having a cell phone. But Twitter tries to assure that they are doing it with your best interests in mind.

In a statement, the social app describes: 'To help build a more personal Twitter experience for you, we are collecting and occasionally updating the list of apps installed on your mobile device so we can deliver tailored content that you might be interested in.'

'We are only collecting the list of applications you have installed. We are not collecting any data within the applications.'

But while it is not the most capital offence, many people would probably prefer Twitter not track their apps. Luckily you can turn it off if you prefer. If you already have Twitter installed on your phone but you have not seen the notification of the update yet, you can prevent Twitter (and other apps) from providing ads by going turning on the 'Limit ad tracking' option if you have an iOs device or by selecting 'Opt out of interest based ads' on your Android device (Accounts -> Google -> Ads).

If you have Twitter installed on your device and you do receive the notification (or you aren't sure) you can manually shut off the option through the Twitter app itself. Within the app, tap settings and then select the account you need to authorize (or prevent, in this case). You are looking for the 'Tailor Twitter based on my apps.' If you see that option, then the app has updated, uncheck the box to stop Twitter from tracking your apps.
