Bye, Butt Fumble! Turkey Day redemption for Eagles' Sanchez

Mark Sanchez may never be able to erase memories of the Butt Fumble from Thanksgiving of 2012, but the former Jets quarterback took another step toward getting his career back on track this Turkey Day.

Sanchez engineered a 33-10 win over the Cowboys in Dallas Thursday, putting the Eagles in sole possession of first place in the NFC East and making Philly fans think twice about if they even want to see starter Nick Foles again.

Sanchez completed 20 of 29 passes for 217 yards while throwing for a score and running in another while - perhaps most importantly - committing no turnovers.

What a sharp contrast it is to see Sanchez leading what appears to be a playoff-bound team while his old Jets play out the rest of a meaningless season without a good option at quarterback, just waiting to see who Woody Johnson fires. And it's an extra dagger to New York in that he suddenly looks like the most capable quarterback in the NFC East while the Giants wallow in the cellar of the division with Washington at 3-8 and set to bench their once star QB Robert Griffin III.

Yes, this slightly darker shade of green seems to fit the former fifth overall pick quite nicely.

The Eagles improve to 3-1 with Sanchez as a starter after he took over for the injured Foles. That's more wins than the Jets have managed all season.

Not that Sanchez wasn't helped by his teammates in the Thanksgiving win. In fact, the Eagles thoroughly dominated the Cowboys in all facets of the game. That previously-vaunted Cowboys offensive line was thrashed by the Eagles as Tony Romo was sacked four times.

Eagles running back LeSean McCoy ran all over the Cowboys defense to the tune of 159 yards and a score.

It was actually Sanchez using his legs that got the game kicked off on the right foot for the Eagles. He executed a clean and efficient opening possession that set the tone, capping the 80-yard drive with a 2-yard scramble for the game's first score. Sanchez finished with 28 yards on seven carries, showing an ability to gain on the ground the way he did in his early years with the Jets.

Later in the first quarter, Sanchez hit rookie WR Jordan Matthews for a 27-yard touchdown pass to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead.

Sanchez's counterpart, Romo, struggled mightily, going just 18 of 29 for 199 yards and two interceptions.
