The seven Sayreville football players arrested over the weekend have been suspended from school, Jonathan Busch, the lawyer for the school board said in a statement, according to The Home News Tribune.

'While we are legally restricted from speaking about individual students, it would be fair to say that any student arrested in connection with the matter involving the football program is suspended from Sayreville War Memorial High School, and we are in the process of arranging for an alternative education pending further investigation,' Busch said in the statement.

The announcent came an hour before a vigil was to be held in town for the victims of the alleged hazing ritual.

Also Sunday, Sayreville superintendent Rich Labbe, the man who cancelled the rest of the football season Monday night in responce to the heinous charges against the seven players, told NJ.com he's unsure if football will resume next season at the high school.

'I will say clearly: Whether we have a football program moving forward is certainly a question in my mind,' Labbe told NJ Advance Media. 'Based upon the severity of the charges, I'm not sure. I have to look at the results of the investigation. I have to await more information from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's office.'

A joint statement from county prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Sayreville Police Chief John Zebrowski on Saturday said 'seven juveniles have been charged with juvenile delinquency arising from the attacks upon four victims in four separate incidents at Sayreville War Memorial High School.'

The statement said 'three of the juveniles were charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, conspiracy to commit aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal restraint and hazing for engaging in an act of sexual penetration upon one of the juvenile victims.'

On Wednesday, two nights after Labbe announced the football season had been cancelled due to the hazing allegations, NJ.com detailed the alleged attacks. Quoting a parent of one of the victims, the upper classmen would begin with a howling signal, and that the lights in the locker room would then go off. Then, the victim would be held down, and eventually stood up while a finger would be inserted into his rectum and sometimes into his mouth.

An NJ.com report Saturday night, quoting the parent of a player, provided further detail of the alleged hazing ritual and said that seven players would take part: four players would pounce on a freshman, pinning him to the floor of the locker room; two players would stand guard at the door; and the other player would howl, turn off the lights and digitally penetrate the freshman. 'It's sickening,' said the parent who spoke to NJ.com Saturday.
