ISLAMABAD, Mar 28 (APP): Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF), in collaboration with Pakistan Sports Board, will be holding the 13th National Men Netball Championship 2014 here at Hamidi Hall of Pakistan Sports Complex from April 15 to 18. A total of 16 teams will be participating in this mega event including , Islamabad, defending champions Army, Police, Navy, Air Force, Wapda, Railways, High Education Commission, Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan, KPK, Fata, AJK, GB and LUMS. The President, PNF Zafar Iqbal Awan has formed an eight-member Rules & Technical Committee for the championship which will be responsible to all rules matter in and out of ground.

PESHAWAR, Mar 28 (APP): Muqadas Ashraf of Pakistan Wapda clinched the trophy after defeating sixth seeded Riffat Khan of ZTBL in the final of the 5th ICMS National Women Squash Championship played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Friday. Muqadas Ashraf, a very senior player entered into the Championship as second seed, recorded victory against strong Riffat Khan who also upset top seed and Pakistan No. 1 Zoya Khalid, four ranking player Samar Anjum and Aroma in the first round, quarter-final and semi-final before reaching the grand final. Both Muqadas Ashraf and Riffat Khan were stretched to four sets battle, the score was 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): Former Great Javed Miandad tells Pakistan to feel the heat of the 1992 World Cup saying the same spirit and confidence is needed in the team to triumph in the Twenty-20 CWC. Talking to APP, Miandad, who was also part of the 1992 WC victory, said he remembers in 1992 when the national team arrived back he heard people enchanting that this was the second victory in the history of the country after 1947 when it came into being. '1992 WC is lesson for everybody and our national team should learn from it and play with the same spirit,' he said.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) in collaboration with Army is organizing All Pakistan Open National Relay Races Championships (Men and Women) on Thursday here at Jinnah Stadium. Events include all Relay Races 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay, 4x400m Relay, 4x800m Relay and 4x1500m Relay. The athletes from all the affiliated Units of AFP including all Provinces, AJK, Fata, Gilgit Baltistan and Departments will be competing for top honors in this one day extravaganza.


ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): Pacer Mohammad Amir while hailing the news of amendments to the rules concerning banned cricketers being considered by the ICC, said it would be fantastic as by this he could get the opportunity to train and play some cricket before his ban ends in September next year. An amended ICC anti-corruption code, set to be implemented from June, is likely to facilitate a quicker return to international cricket for players serving long-term bans. The idea behind the move is to help the player get ready to play competitive cricket as soon as the ban period is over rather than wait for the ban to end before he can start training.

President arrives in Kabul to attend Nowroz festival





KABUL, Afghanistan, Mar 27 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain arrived in the Afghan capital on Thursday to attend the Nowroz festival, on the invitation of President Hamid Karzai. The President accompanied by Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid was received by the senior officials of Afghanistan's government at the Kabul Airport. Pakistan's ambassador to Afghanistan Syed Abrar Hussain was present. This is the first visit of the President to Afghanistan since taking office. The leaders from the region, particularly from Central and West Asia, have also been invited by the Afghan government to attend the Nowroz festival.


According to Foreign Office, President Mamnoon Hussain on the sidelines will interact with other leaders, during which bilateral matters and regional issues of peace, security, trade and economic cooperation are expected to figure. The President's visit is a part of the efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Afghanistan in all dimensions, and support efforts for durable peace, stability and prosperity in the region.


President Mamnoon Hussain observed that people-to-people contacts were constantly growing and Pakistan had offered 3,000 scholarships for the Afghan students. Thousands of Afghan graduates from Pakistani universities and professional colleges were contributing to Afghanistan's national development efforts while thousands of other Afghan students were studying in different institutions of higher learning in Pakistan, he added. The President said Pakistan remained host to millions of Afghan refugees and reiterated the stance to continue its work with the international community and the Afghan government ensuring honourable return of the refugees and their sustainable reintegration in Afghanistan. Drawing attention of his Afghan, Iranian and Tajik counterparts towards bright future of the region, the President said Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan were bound by long-standing ties of common history, culture, faith and kinship. 'We all are committed to the progress and prosperity of our people. Our shared past provides a solid foundation for building a common vision of a hopeful future,' he added. The President said that he was confident that the meeting would assist in the advancement of shared objectives of peace, stability and economic development. He expressed the hope that together, they could achieve a lot, emphasising that the future generations deserved a better and brighter future as they had great expectations. 'Their rightful aspirations can be fulfilled in a substantial measure only in an environment of peace and stability. Such an environment is possible through mutual understanding, tolerance and co-existence,' he said, adding 'In nurturing those values, we believe we are on the right path. We need to intensify our efforts for cooperation, on the bilateral and regional levels.' The President further elaborated that the region had the necessary resources while the people living in it have the requisite determination to meet the common challenges and realize the vast opportunities before them.
