Jimmie Johnson's brother

The 27-year-old brother-in-law of Jimmie Johnson was killed when he collided with another skydiver Sunday.

The brother-in-law of NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson was killed in a skydiving accident in the San Diego area Sunday, according to multiple news reports.

Jordan Janway, 27, was a skydiving instructor with more than 1,000 jumps, according to KNSD-TV. The report says Janway was practicing a maneuver when he collided with his jump partner between 10,000 and 6,000 feet. It is believed the midair collision knocked Janway unconscious so he could not deploy his parachute. No other jumpers were injured.

Janway is the brother of Johnson's wife, Chandra. Johnson, a six-time Sprint Cup champion, confirmed the news in a statement on his website.

'The Johnsons are saddened by the tragic passing of Chandra's brother, Jordan Janway, 27,' the statement said. 'Jordan was an incredible son, brother, uncle and friend and will be dearly missed. Please keep the Janway family in your thoughts and prayers. The family asks for privacy at this time.'
