Mozilla and Yahoo announced a five-year partnership agreement Wednesday that makes the latter the default Firefox search engine in the United States.
Google has been Firefox's default search engine since 2004. But as the agreement between these two companies comes to an end this year, Mozilla decided to make a change.

'Our agreement with Google came up for renewal this year, and we took this as an opportunity to review our competitive strategy and explore our options,' according to Mozilla CEO Chris Beard.
Mozilla said they're excited to partner with Yahoo in bringing 'a new, re-imagined Yahoo search experience to Firefox users in the U.S. that features the best of the Web.'
The company will focus on expanding their work with motivated partners 'to explore innovative new search interfaces, content experiences, and privacy enhancements across desktop and mobile devices.'
'This is the most significant partnership for Yahoo in five years and we're so proud that Mozilla has chosen us as their long-term partner in search,' said Yahoo Chief Marissa Mayer.
Starting this December, Yahoo plans to reveal a 'clean and modern' search engine on Mozilla. A 'new enhanced Yahoo Search experience' will be introduced to U.S. Firefox users and a new model on its own website will roll out early next year.
Mozilla also added it will keep Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, eBay, Amazon, Twitter, and Wikipedia built-in as alternate search options for U.S. users, reports said.
In Sri Lanka, the company had worked with telecom and ICT services provider Sri Lanka Telecom PLC on a new 100 gigabyte nationwide fiber optics network spanning 20,000 kilometers.
