White Woman Sues Sperm Bank After Accidentally Getting Black Baby

A white Ohio woman is suing a sperm bank for mistakenly giving her African-American sperm and thus causing her to have an African-American baby.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Jennifer Cramblett, 33, filed a lawsuit Monday (Sept. 29), alleging that Midwest Sperm Bank sent her sperm from an African-American donor in September 2011 after she and her domestic partner, Amanda Zinkon, had ordered sperm from a white donor. She says the mix-up happened because the sperm bank keeps handwritten instead of electronic records.

Cramblett first learned of the error in April 2012, when she was preggo and ordered more vials from what she thought was the same donor to have a second child. The right vials from white donor No. 380 were delivered in August 2011, but other orders came from African American donor No. 330, according to the suit.

In addition, Cramblett claims that raising their now racially-mixed 2-year-old daughter has been difficult in an all-white community.

'On August 21, 2012, Jennifer gave birth to Payton, a beautiful, obviously mixed-race baby girl,' the lawsuit reads. 'Jennifer bonded with Payton easily and she and Amanda love her very much. Even so, Jennifer lives each day with fears, anxieties and uncertainty about her future and Payton's future.'

An attorney for Midwest Sperm Bank said the company had no comment.
