Obama to Stump for Gov. Quinn in Chicago

Gov. Pat Quinn is getting some help from President Barack Obama as the Democratic governor seeks his second full term.

Obama is scheduled to attend a fundraiser for Quinn Thursday morning before pushing his economic message during a scheduled 1:15 p.m. speech at Northwestern University in Evanston.

Quinn is in a tight contest with Republican businessman Bruce Rauner.

First lady Michelle Obama also is scheduled to be in Chicago on Tuesday to assist Quinn's campaign.

Some Democrats have distanced themselves from Obama on the campaign trail this year. But Quinn told reporters Wednesday the president and first lady, who are from Chicago, 'do us proud.''

He says: 'They stand for progress. They stand for doing the right thing. I'm with the president all the way.''

The president on Wednesday evening mingled with diners at a Chicago steakhouse shortly after landing at the Gary/Chicago International Airport.
