Hundreds of Harvard affiliates receive emailed death threat

Police plan to increase their presence on the Harvard University campus this weekend after hundreds of students and affiliates received an email that included a threat to shoot and kill people on campus Saturday morning.

The Harvard Crimson reported that the racially charged email stated that the author would come to Harvard Saturday at '11 clock' and 'shoot all of you' and 'kill you individually.'

The email was addressed to 'All students at Harvard' and, according to the Crimson, referred to the email's recipients as 'slit-eyes.' Many of the recipients appeared to have Asian surnames.

The author identified himself or herself as Stephanie Nguyen and claimed to live in Boston, but the Crimson reported the email address from where the email was sent identified the sender as Eduardo Nguyen and that it was sent from a Hotmail.de email address.

Cambridge police as well as the FBI were notified of the threat, which is currently under investigation.

Officials said that though they can't verify it is a real threat, every member of the Harvard University community is being asked to become familiar with the Harvard University Police Department's Active Shooter Safety Guidelines based on the Department of Homeland Security's recommendations.
