After Squandering Late Lead, UCLA Nips Colorado in 2nd Overtime

Ameer Abdullah ran for 225 yards and three touchdowns and set a school record with 341 all-purpose yards, leading No. 16 Nebraska to a 42-24 victory over visiting Rutgers on Saturday.


Abdullah surpassed 200 yards rushing for a nation-leading fourth time this season and broke Roy Helu Jr.'s record of 321 all-purpose yards.


The Cornhuskers (7-1, 3-1 Big Ten) reached the halfway point of conference play tied with Minnesota for first in the West Division.


Near the end of the first half, Rutgers (5-3, 1-3) lost quarterback Gary Nova, who left the field holding his right knee after being tackled just as he released a pass.


Abdullah, who had four 1-yard touchdown runs a week ago, scored on runs of 53, 48 and 23 yards and set up a touchdown with a 76-yard kickoff return. He averaged 11.8 yards a carry.


KANSAS STATE 23, TEXAS 0 Kansas State gave visiting Texas its first shutout in more than a decade, holding the Longhorns to 196 total yards.


Matthew McCrane kicked three field goals, and DeMarcus Robinson and Charles Jones each ran for touchdowns to lead the 11th-ranked Wildcats (6-1, 4-0 Big 12).



Tyrone Swoopes was 13 of 25 for 106 yards for the Longhorns (3-5, 2-3), who were shut out for the first time since a 12-0 loss to Oklahoma on Oct. 9, 2004.


WISCONSIN 52, MARYLAND 7 Melvin Gordon rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns in the first half for the host Badgers (5-2, 2-1 Big Ten). Joel Stave threw for two scores in the second half. Maryland (5-3, 2-2) avoided a shutout on Stefon Diggs's 21-yard touchdown catch with 57 seconds left.


ILLINOIS 28, MINNESOTA 24 Illinois turned to its much-criticized defense for a late touchdown and a defensive stand that delivered a win over visiting Minnesota.


Illinois (4-4, 1-3 Big Ten) trailed, 24-21, with 6 minutes 33 seconds left when linebacker T. J. Neal stripped the ball from running back David Cobb. Cornerback V'Angelo Bentley grabbed the ball at the Gopher 12 and ran it in for a touchdown.


Illinois then held the Gophers four times at the Illini 26 with less than two minutes to play.


BROWN 42, CORNELL 16 Brown (3-3, 1-2) led visiting Cornell (0-6, 0-3) by 35-2 early in the fourth quarter.


ARKANSAS 45, UAB 17 Jonathan Williams rushed for a career-high 153 yards and had two touchdowns, and 350-pound offensive lineman Sebastian Tretola threw a 6-yard touchdown pass, as Arkansas rolled to a win over visiting Alabama-Birmingham. The Razorbacks (4-4) led by 35-0 at halftime.


Alabama-Birmingham (4-4) had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by J. J. Nelson.


MARIST 27, CAMPBELL 0 Atiq Lucas rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns as Marist (2-6, 2-3 Pioneer League) defeated visiting Campbell (4-4, 4-1).
