US Senators Sent to Deserted Island for 'Survivor'

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) are being cast away

As their colleagues fight for re-election, two US senators will be fighting for survival.

Discovery announced on Thursday that Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) will star in a reality series called 'Rival Survival,' which will find them stranded on a remote, uninhabited island. The show will premiere on October 29, shortly before the midterm elections.

Their challenge: select three items from a modest selection of choices, and then try to survive. No aides, no lobbyists, and no interns can help as they 'spear fish, build shelter and find enough water to survive for one week,' on an island that has no source of natural water.

Stuck there for six days, with no PAC money to save them, they'll have to see what it's like to fight for luxuries they take for granted. And, they'll be surrounded by shark-infested waters, further simulating what it's like to be a working American today.

Pending the series' Nielsen ratings, this could be the first act of Congress that this country's citizens approve of this year!
