Tom Brady says Patriots' offense can play better

A reporter told quarterback Tom Brady he seemed 'very downcast' after the Patriots' 30-7 win Sunday at Minnesota.

'I'm happy we won,' Brady said, 'I just wish we could go out there and play like we're capable.'

Brady's unit totaled less than 300 yards of offense (292), ran one fewer play (60) than the Vikings, and had two fewer drives (11) than the Vikings. The unit converted on two of four red-zone possessions, and had 15 penalties for 163 yards.

'I think we had pretty good control out there,' Brady said. 'Thought we did a good job in the run game, took advantage of some opportunities, but hopefully we can do a lot better.'

The offense scored touchdowns after two of the Patriots' four interceptions.

The Patriots' first touchdown, a 1-yard run by Stevan Ridley, was set up by a Devin McCourty interception in the first quarter. The second came on a 9-yard pass from Brady to Julian Edelman in the second quarter, capping a seven-play, 61-yard drive that began when Darrelle Revis intercepted a Matt Cassel pass.

The offense didn't find the end zone in the second half.

'I think we have a lot of work to do still,' he said. 'It's good to win. We'll get back to work tomorrow.'

Brady was sacked just once Sunday - the Dolphins had four in Week 1 - and completed 68 percent of his passes for 149 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per attempt. The offensive line paved the way for a 101-yard ground performance from Ridley, and Edelman caught six passes for 81 yards.

Though Brady praised the defense and special teams in his postgame news conference, he didn't seem pleased about the offensive outing.

'It was a great team win, a lot of guys contributed,' he said. 'Hopefully, offensively we can do a better job next week.'
