Chrysler has issued a recall for around 189,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durano vehicles in the U.S. after reports that the SUVs can stall due to faulty fuel pumps.
The recall affects certain vehicles from the 2011 model year equipped with 3.6-liter V6 or 5.7-liter V8 engines, the Associated Press reported. As of Aug. 25, Chrysler is not aware of any accidents or injuries connected with the problem, which has been related to a spring that can become deformed by heat.

'A contact spring can malfunction due to the heat caused by contact power, ambient temperature around the fuel pump relay, and battery voltage,' the reported. The automaker has been researching the issue since October 2013.
A nonprofit consumer advocacy group is pushing for a far more extensive recall, saying that millions of other vehicles are equipped with the same problematic fuel pump component. The Center for Auto Safety places the total number of affected Chrysler vehicles at 5 million.
'Chrysler should recall them all,' said executive director Clarence Ditlow, as quoted by the AP.
In a petition filed last month with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the center said that vehicles produced since 2007 have the issue, listing models including Ram pickup trucks, Chrysler and Dodge minivans, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango and Dodge Journey SUVs and the Jeep Wrangler.
Chrysler will contact affected owners for the recall, which covers 88,723 vehicles in the U.S., 15,898 in Canada, 7,126 in Mexico and 19,013 outside North America, the Detroit News reported.
