Preliminary findings, warrants released in deaths of 5 children

Lexington County officials released the preliminary results of autopsies in the deaths of five children and warrants against their father Thursday evening.

Timothy Jones Jr. is charged with five counts of murder in the deaths of his children. Their bodies were located in Alabama days after they went missing from their South Carolina home.

The deaths of Abigal, 1, Gabriel, 2, Nahtan, 6, Elias, 7, and Merah, 8, have been ruled homicides. The cause of death is still under investigation.

The bodies were badly decomposed when discovered. Jones is believed to have driven around with the bodies in garbage bags in his SUV for several days before he dumped them in a remote area.

Jones is in custody in Lexington County having been extradited from Mississippi where he was arrested after being stopped at a traffic checkpoint.
