Latest updates:
7:16 A.M. Two suicide bombers in the Afghan capital targeted two buses carrying Afghan army troops on Wednesday, killing seven and wounding 21 people, police said.
The first attacker hit a bus with Afghan National Army officers, killing seven and wounding 15 in west Kabul, said Kabul criminal investigation police chief Mohammad Farid Afzali.
The second attacker, who was also on foot, blew himself up in front of a second bus in northeast Kabul, wounding additional army personnel, Afzali said.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attacks. They came a day after Afghanistan and the U.S. signed a security pact allowing U.S. forces to remain in the country past the end of the year to support Afghans as they take over the fight against the Taliban insurgency. 7:55 P.M. British Tornado fighter jets have launched their first attacks against Islamic State targets in Iraq since parliament approved combat operations last Friday, Defense Secretary Michael Fallon said on Tuesday.
'They identified and attacked a heavy weapons position that was endangering Kurdish forces and they subsequently attacked an (IS) armed pick-up truck in the same area,' he told the BBC.
'Both Tornados have now returned safely to their base and the initial attack assessment is that both attacks were successful,' he added. (Reuters)
2:06 P.M. Islamist-allied militias in control of the Libyan capital say they reject the United Nations' call for a cease-fire. The announcement followed the first round of U.N.-brokered talks between Libya's rival lawmakers on Monday.
The talks are an attempt to bridge the gap between warring groups that have left Libya torn between two governments and parliaments. The Libya Dawn umbrella - which controls Tripoli and is affiliated with the militia from the western city of Misrata - says on its Facebook page that the way to end the fighting is to disarm its rivals and arrest their leaders.
