Secretary of the State Denise Merrill issued the following statement regarding the guilty verdicts delivered today in the federal corruption trial of former Connecticut Governor John Rowland.
Mr. Rowland was convicted of conspiring to receive and conceal illegal payments as a consultant to the 2012 Congressional campaign of Republican 5th District candidate Lisa Wilson-Foley.
'This is another sad day in Connecticut politics,' Ms. Merrill said. 'Our citizens deserve elections that are fair, open, and honest. Today's jury verdict has reaffirmed that in Connecticut we have zero tolerance for those who attempt to skirt the rules.'
