SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- Elections officials are not expecting a big turnout of voters for Tuesday's primary.

Elections commissioner Helen Kiggins Walsh said they expect only a 20 percent democratic turnout within the city of Syracuse. Outside the city they're expecting only a 10 percent democratic turnout. The commissioner says there's a few reasons why this is expected. Because there are more democratic voters downstate near New York City, candidates are putting more effort into that area.

'Voters upstate, they're probably not getting direct mail, they're probably not getting phone calls so it's all being geared towards downstate so the turnout upstate is going to be very low,' said Walsh.Polling places will be open from noon until 9 p.m.
