Chuck Todd Doesn't Want Elected Officials to 'Play Pundit' on Meet the Press

Here's something that happens a lot on the Sunday news shows: politicians come on and opine on anything the host asks them; mostly hypotheticals in answer to questions like 'What would your advice to President Obama be?' or 'If you were president, what would you do?' Well, new Meet the Press host Chuck Todd made it clear in an interview yesterday that he doesn't want to have elected officials on just so they can play the role of pundit.

Todd opened up about what he wants to bring to the long-running show in an interview with The Huffington Post. He talked about his gradual approach to attracting younger viewers to Meet the Press (him doing a Reddit AMA was a decent start), and expanding the show's reach beyond the Beltway.

Todd also addressed his approach to having politicians on the show. He doesn't want to bring elected leaders on just so they can 'play pundit':

'They're the policy-makers. They're the ones we've, in our great wisdom in America, sent to Washington to solve these problems. Make them discuss that, not just opine about what they'd do if they were in another job.'

Now that just begs the question of whether John McCain will continue to be the show's most frequent guest.
