Interstate, CTA Delays Easing After Flooding Problems

The Chicago area made it through a rainy, Thursday morning commute, but we're not out of the woods for more rain, storms and, in some cases, pea-size hail.

NBC 5 weather models show periods of scattered showers and storms continuing today, through some of the weekend and into next week. The rest of Thursday is expected to be warm and humid, setting the stage for unsettled periods and more storms at any time.

High temps could reach the mid- to upper 80s in spots, and scattered showers and storms are likely again tonight with heavy rain at times and localized flooding possible.

Some storms could produce wind gusts of up to 60 mph, pea- to nickel-size hail, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rainfall leading to localized flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and storms continue into the morning for another potentially messy commute and could appear on the radar again later in the day as temperatures reach between 85 and 90 degrees with heat index readings well into the 90s.

Don't put away your umbrellas just yet. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible at times again on Saturday.

Sunday looks to be the warmest and driest day with highs in the low 90s and heat index readings into the upper 90s. NBC 5 models show any heavy rain producing thunderstorms is expected to stay in southern Wisconsin.

A sunny, hazy and warm Monday is predicted with more showers and thunderstorms likely late in the evening. Rain continues into Tuesday morning, according to models, and pop up again throughout the day Wednesday.
