Obama family puts duty first at Hawaii basketball game

IT'S the season for families around the world to bite their tongues and put up with each other. The US first family is no exception.

On their annual winter holiday in Hawaii, US President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and their daughters Sasha and Malia dutifully attended the Oregon State University vs. University of Akron college basketball game at the Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Centre.

Clearly they weren't there due to of any passion for the game, judging by the less than enthusiastic expressions and body language of the entire Obama clan.

It was more a case of family duty as Michelle Obama's bother, Craig Robinson, is the coach of Oregon State.

Mr Obama, as well as his family, are exhausted and were looking forward to a thorough rest during the Christmas break.

'You know, the end of the year is always a good time to reflect and see what can you do better next year,' Mr Obama said as he departed for Oahu in his home state yesterday.

'That's how I intend to approach it. I am sure that I will have even better ideas after a couple days of sleep and sun.'
