'You took a chance on me in the dark days after 9/11, when the city's future was so uncertain and our hearts were so heavy,' he said.

In his final radio address, Mayor Bloomberg said he'll wake up smiling Wednesday morning - the day he leaves office - knowing he did the best job he could have after 12 years in office.

Bloomberg, who has taken to the radio to address New Yorkers each Sunday, gave his 601st and last weekly address this weekend. Touting his achievements from banning smoking indoors to doubling the population of lower Manhattan, increasing life expectancy by three years, and cutting murder in half, Bloomberg thanked New Yorkers for taking a chance on him as an untested leader. 'You took a chance on me in the dark days after 9/11, when the city's future was so uncertain and our hearts were so heavy,' he said. 'I was a political outsider, a relative unknown, an entrepreneur with no government experience who asked for your trust.'
