Members of the National Guard stand guard outside the Ferguson Police Department in Missouri November 28, 2014.

A little more than 1,200 troops remained stationed in the St. Louis area, and were to continue to support local law enforcement in Ferguson, Missouri, the governor said.

The St. Louis suburb of Ferguson is where 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot dead on Aug. 9 by white police officer Darren Wilson.

A county prosecutor announced on Nov. 24 that a grand jury decided not to indict Wilson. The governor had declared a state of emergency before the grand jury announcement, anticipating unrest.
