Hallmark pulls 'swastika' wrapping paper

That's a wrap.

Hallmark Cards Inc. has ordered stores to stop selling rolls of blue and silver wrapping paper after a California woman complained that she saw swastikas within the design.

'We apologize for the oversight and apologize to anyone who was offended. That obviously was not our intent,' a company spokeswoman told The Kansas City Star. 'It was an oversight on our part to not notice the intersecting lines that could be seen as a swastika pattern.'

Cheryl Shapiro spotted the offensive gift wrap while shopping at a Northridge, California, Walgreens on Saturday.

She said she was caught off guard by the interlocking lines on the paper, which was in a Hanukkah display at the store, because they looked like the Nazi symbol.

'I couldn't believe my eyes, I had no idea what to do,' she told NBC LA.

Hallmark said it heard about Shapiro's complaint on Sunday night and ordered retailers nationwide to stop selling the gift wrap on Monday, The Kansas City Star reported.
