BOSTON - Klas Dahlbeck scored his first career NHL goal but the Blackhawks lost Jonathan Toews in their 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.
Toews went head first into the boards on a hit by Dennis Seidenberg in the second period. Toews stayed in the game for the ensuing 5-on-3 - on the Seidenberg boarding call - and was soon whistled for a penalty. But Toews left the game with 7:08 remaining in the second and would not return.
Blackhawks assistant coach Mike Kitchen, speaking on the CSN game broadcast as the third period began, said Toews was being held out for precautionary reasons.
Johnny Oduya also left the game late in the second period but he did return to start the third.

The Blackhawks have now won eight in a row and 11 of their last 12. Scott Darling stopped 32 of 34 shots for his third victory in as many games.
Dahlbeck's goal gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead 9:10 into the game. Ben Smith added his third of the season about nine minutes later to give the Blackhawks a 2-0 edge after one.
The Blackhawks struggled to do anything on two consecutive 5-on-3 power plays - the first was for 1:07 and the second was for 47 seconds. Didn't matter, as Patrick Kane scored his 13th of the season for a 3-0 edge at the time.
Reilly Smith scored in the second and Torey Krug added one in the third for the Bruins, who made things interesting in the final period.
