National Guard helicopter crashes in Boise

Boise Fire Chief Dennis Doan said in a Twitter post that fire crews were on scene near the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and West Hollilynn Drive.

Ada County Dispatch said the first report of a downed aircraft came in at about 7:50 p.m. MT.

Idaho National Guard spokesman Col. Tim Marsano confirmed that there were two crewmembers on board the helicopter when it went down. They were on a nighttime training mission, he said.

Conditions of those Guardsmen have not been released, but a KTVB-TV crew at the scene observed two vans from the Ada County Coroner's Office arrive at the scene.

The helicopter that crashed is one of 16 Apaches based at Gowen Field Air National Guard Base. Marsano said it sent an automated beacon after it crashed.

The cause of the crash is not yet known and an investigation is underway.
