It was Dynamic Duo night on Dancing With the Stars, for Monday's Week 8 episode.
And that meant the seven remaining stars were dressed up in get-ups that, as host Tom Bergeron said, made it looked like it was still Halloween.
In a twist to the scores, the couple with the highest overall score for the night would be granted immunity from elimination. The duos who did not receive immunity then had to compete in a dance-off to earn extra judges' points to boost their scores.
And at the end of the night, someone would be eliminated by judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli.
Would it be NASCAR star Michael Waltrip? He's been hovering near the bottom of the pack.
Here's what happened:
A true dynamic duo!(Photo: ABC)
Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney Carson as Batman & Robin: Alfonso had a problem zip-lining in to the ballroom as Batman during rehearsals, getting stuck and having to hang on the line until a ladder could be found. But in the ballroom, he had no problem. His cha cha was dynamic (although his painted on mask was a little cheesy/weird). Julianne called him 'pure entertainment.' Bruno raved. Carrie Ann there was 'something so right' about it all. Len told Alfonso to get in his Batmobile and 'head into next week.' Scores: 10, 9, 9, 10 = 38 + 3 = 41
Janel Parrish & Val Chmerkovskiy as Romeo & Juliet: Their contemporary dance was romantic and emotional and really showed Janel to be a beautiful dancer. Bruno said it was 'gorgeous and glorious in every possible way.' Carrie Ann said it was Val's 'finest' choreography. Len said it showed Janel is a 'great dancer.' Julianne called it 'breathtaking.' Erin Andrews teased Val about shaving off his beard, calling him a 'baby face.' Scores: 10, 10, 10, 10 = 40
Bethany Mota & Derek Hough as Lucy & Ricky Ricardo: Their salsa sizzled, even though they kept it pretty much contained to a scene that was like a kitchen set from the 1950s show. Bruno praised her 'versatility.' Carrie Ann said it was 'ridiculous' but said there was one mistake. Len said it was 'hotter than a bull's bum in June.' Julianne loved how much she has come out of her shell. Scores: 9, 9, 9, 10 = 37 + 3 = 40
Sadie and Mark are Adam and Eve(Photo: ABC)
Sadie Robertson & Mark Ballas as Adam & Eve: The two got Biblical. We mean, they recreated the Garden of Eden, complete with an apple they threw back and forth, fighting over it, as they danced a dramatic contemporary number. The crowd loved it. Len said he 'loved' Mark's creativity and passion. Julianne 'absolutely loved it.' She said it was a more mature dance for the Duck Dynasty star. Bruno said Sadie has 'come such a long way, my darling.' Carrie Ann quibbled about a final moment but said it was otherwise 'fantastic.' Scores: 9, 9, 10, 10 = 38
Lea Thompson & Artem Chigvintsev were Bonnie & Clyde: The two did a slinky jazz dance that was precise and pointed. Seemed nice, but the judges didn't love it. Len imparted some Len wisdom: 'You gotta risk it to get the biscuit,' and told Lea to come out stronger next week. Julianne was 'underwhelmed.' Bruno said it wasn't 'insightful.' Carrie Ann liked that Lea finally showed some confidence (although these remarks should take care of that), but said it was 'mime-ish.' Scores: 8, 8, 8, 8, = 32
Tommy Chong & Peta Murgatroyd as Johnny & June Cash: 'Everyone knows (Tommy's) 76. Everyone knows he's tired,' said Peta, but Tommy is still going strong. He mentioned that he knew Johnny Cash, and then he did a valiant job of dancing a paso doble as Johnny to Ring of Fire. Carrie Ann loved his 'magic mojo' even though he was a half-step behind in the dance. Len: 'You're like a hot dog. You're tasty but you're never sure about the content.' Julianne said he looked good in black. Bruno said it was a little 'mild.' Tommy mentioned he had a calf problem and Peta said it was a victory that Tommy made it through the dance in one piece. Scores: 6, 7, 7, 6 = 26 + 3 = 29
Michael was happy to finish his dance with Emma, but not happy to be sent home.(Photo: ABC)
Michael Waltrip & Emma Slater were Jane & Tarzan: Mr. NASCAR didn't opt for a loincloth for his clunky foxtrot, thankfully. Julianne said he seemed more comfortable. Bruno called him 'polite.' Carrie Ann was proud of how much he has 'improved.' Len said it was the 'best' he's seen Waltrip dance. In the skybox, he apparently had tears, as pointed out by Erin Andrews. 'I'm not a dancer!' he said, but added, 'I'm dancing with my heart and having fun.' Scores: 6, 7, 6, 6 = 25
For the dance-off: Alfonso and Witney took on Lea and Artem in a jive. Carrie Ann said both 'killed it.' According to Twitter, 85% thought Alfonso won the round. The judges agreed. Alfonso and Witney got 3 extra points.
Sadie and Mark challenged Bethany and Derek in a cha cha number. Sadie was long and lean. Bethany was compact and tight. 'This was really hard,' said Julianne. Len wanted to see it again. Bethany snagged 52% of the Twitter votes. The judges deemed it a tie, and Len cast the deciding vote for Bethany and Derek.
Michael and Emma went up against Tommy and Peta in a rumba. Host Tom Bergeron announced that Tommy had hurt his calf, but that didn't seem to be a problem. Both men looked pretty happy to be rumba-ing all over their beautiful pro partners. On Twitter, 73% gave the round to Tommy. The winners: Tommy and Peta.
Eliminated: Michael Waltrip and his partner Emma Slater.
'It was a chance to do something that was more emotional than it was physical,' said Waltrip in his final moments. 'I grew so much emotionally. I'm a better person because of my tenure here and I'm happy I got to be here.'
