A Rutgers student who was killed by a bear in West Milford, New Jersey had taken pictures of the 300-pound beast before it came after him and mauled the student to death. Police have released the final pictures that the Rutgers student snapped of the bear while walking through the Apshawa Preserve with friends, according to on Nov. 26.
Darsh Patel was with a group of his friends when they happened upon a 300-pound bear. The group took out their cell phones and started clicking away at the bear capturing photos of the creature that was a good distance away. The bear became aware of the group and started to walk closer and then its walk was no longer slow, it was charging. The creature got a hold of Patel and mauled him to death, reports News Oxy today.
The bear was on such a rampage to take Patel down that it clawed and gouged the cell phone the 22-year-old was using. The images pulled off of Patel's phone showed the bear about 100-feet away from where the group was standing and taking pictures of nature's beast.
The police report indicates that the bear became aware of the group because they were making noise taking those pictures. While the bear started off waddling their way, it soon gained speed and came barreling towards them.
The group took off running, but the bear caught up to Patel and ended his life. During the confusion the group became separated and when they regrouped they couldn't find Patel and called the police. The 911 call can be heard above in the audio/video.
Police found Patel's body in the woods with the bear still about 30 to 40 yards away from the student's remains. The very last picture that Patel took of the bear was released by police and it is posted above. Patel has become the first person to be killed by a bear in New Jersey reports Fox News.
