Ricketts, Susan Odessa SpencerSusan Odessa Spencer Ricketts, 78, of Roanoke County, passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Nellie Spencer; and her brother, Russell Allen Spencer.She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William R. Ricketts, Jr.; step-brother, Jimmy Spencer; son, the Rev. Stephen Ricketts (Alice) and daughter, Katharine Wells. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren, Susan Ewing (Marcus), Robert Ricketts, Deborah Ricketts, Stephen A. Ricketts, Jessika Ruble (Chad), and Joseph Wells; and, great-grandchildren, Sofia Odessa, Mckenna, and Windsor Ruble.Susan was retired after working in retail for several years at Tanglewood Mall, especially Tanglewood Hobby 'N Craft. She enjoyed animals and kept several dogs and exotic birds over the years. She enjoyed many crafts, including sewing, counted cross stitch and egg decorating.A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014at the Church of the Holy Spirit on 6011 Merriman Road, Roanoke, VA 24018 with theRev. Todd Meyer officiating.The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014at the church. Services provided by Oakey's Funeral Home, South Chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Roanoke Valley SPCA or a charity of your choice.
