FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - (AP) -- Long Island authorities are investigating whether the killing of a woman found outside an apartment building and the nearby death of a man struck by a train are linked.
Nassau County police say the woman was found dead on Secatogue Avenue in Farmingdale just before 8 p.m. Tuesday. Police would not say how the woman, believed to be in her 60s, was killed.
Police say the second victim, a man in his 30s, was fatally struck by an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train about 25 minutes later. The tracks are about a thousand feet from the homicide scene.
The identities of the victims were not released.
A building resident, Nick Gordon, told Newsday he saw a trail of blood on the stairs that continued to the front door.
