Members of the family of local actress Misty Upham have said in a Facebook post today that her death was not from suicide but was accidental. She had run into the wooden area in order to hide from the police, they said. That particular area had a hidden drop off and with her not noticing this, she fell off accidentally from the steep embankment. Her father Charles Upham also said that once the Fire Department officials recovered her body, he personally went there and confirmed that one cannot see the steep embankment until it's too late. Misty Upham had been reported missing since Oct 6, and she was found dead in a 150 foot embankment near the White River on Oct 16. Medical examination of the body has confirmed that she had died on Oct 5. The investigation is still undergoing and the officials have not yet confirmed the cause of her death. The Upham family said that she had been confronting mental illness throughout her life and had managed it in a good way. After she moved to Washington this year in order to take care of her father, she was not able to have the same medication which was the reason of her increasing depression and the panic attacks she had been going through. The Facebook post also reveals that she was picked up by the Auburn police after her involuntary transport into an emergency room. The members acknowledged to have seen the police officers tease her soon after they handcuffed her. The police guys were tapping on the window and made faces at her, the post said. They were really upset with the Auburn police department and have blamed them for their daughter's condition, while Commander Steve Stocker defended the situation by saying that Upham was not considered endangered. According to the laws in order to enlist a person endangered one has to be involved in an involuntary, suspicious or unexplained condition, which was not the case with Upham. The department also wrote that they were saddened by the death of the actress and also thanked for the help the Upham family had provided during the investigation.
