A man in his 60s appears to have killed his daughter and teenage granddaughter before taking his own life. A 10-year-old boy was able to call 911. The child is unhurt. The boy reportedly called for help shortly after 8 p.m., saying his grandfather had waved a handgun at the two victims before shooting them. The boy said his grandfather then turned the gun on himself.
Police described the gunman as a man in his 60s. None of the victims was immediately identified. Moreover police officials and Mayor Ed Murray rushed to the scene on 6300 block of South Fountain Street. 911 receptionists received a call at 8:17 p.m. from a 10-year-old boy reporting a shooting inside the house, Assistant Chief Nick Metz said. Police arrived three minutes later to find the dead.
Assistant Chief Nick Metz said it appeared the two women were shot by the elderly man, and that the man took his own life. Metz added that the elderly man was the adult woman's father and the teenage girl's grandfather. Seattle police continue to investigate the scene.
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray attended a brief news conference Monday night. 'Three citizens of the city are dead. It involves guns. It probably involves domestic violence. It's a scene any mayor of any major city would be at,' Murray said. The mayor says the shooting appears to be 'a family tragedy' and adds that 'the neighborhood itself is safe.
