ARLINGTON, Texas - Dallas Cowboys workhorse DeMarco Murray made history, setting a record as the first running back in history to go seven straight games with 100 rushing yards to begin a season.
With his 5-yard gain with 13:11 in the third quarter of a game the Cowboys led 21-14 against the New York Giants, Murray broke his tie with Hall of Famer Jim Brown, who had rushed for 100 yards in six straight games to begin the 1958 season. Murray hit the 100-yard mark on his 18th carry and the AT&T Stadium crowd loudly cheered the milestone.
The mark seemed in question late in the second quarter when Murray appeared headed for a touchdown only to have his right ankle buckle. After getting his ankle taped, Murray returned and proved no worse for wear.
The fourth-year back has picked the ideal time to have a career season considering he is in the final year of his four-year rookie deal that will pay him $1.3 million this year. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told USA TODAY Sports this week the club intends to extend Murray for 'three, four years, whatever it entails.'
