Chicago cop in critical condition from shootout at Englewood building

A Chicago police officer has been criticially wounded during a shootout in the high-crime neighborhood of Englewood, authorities said.


The unidentified policeman was taken to a nearby hospital as more than 100 cops converged on an apartment building in the 7200 block of South Lowe Avenue, according to NBC5 in Chicago.


The officer was in critical condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, the Chicago Tribune reported.


Law enforcement officers from the Chicago Police Department and Illinois state troopers were on the scene. The shooter reportedly is wanted for a crime in Indianapolis, the paper said.
