Government official said on Sunday in Kabul that more than 14 people, including four Taliban militants, were killed in separate attacks in Afghanistan.

He said this was coming a day before the country inaugurates a new president.

Lal Ahmadzai, Police Spokesman said, a policeman working with the Taliban killed five of his colleagues in an outpost in the western province of Farah.

He said the incident took place late Saturday night in the Posht Rod district and the attacker fled to Taliban-ruled villages.

Ahmadzai added that again, in the eastern province of Wardak, five police officers were killed in a roadside bombing.

He said four Taliban fighters were killed by police when they attacked a checkpoint in the Keshm district of Badakhshan, north-eastern Afghanistan.

Ahmadzai said a soldier was also injured on Sunday when a magnetic bomb planted in an army car went off in a diplomatic area in Kabul.

He said this was coming ahead of the President-elect Ashraf Ghani swearing in ceremony on Monday, in the first peaceful transition of power from one elected leader to another in Afghanistan.

Ahmadzai said the crisis would not deter the exercise, as adequate security measures have been put in place, to ensure peaceful inauguration. (dpa/NAN)
