The political action committee launched by former Rep. Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly detailed plans Tuesday to take on the gun lobby in congressional races in nine states.
The Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC, which has raised $14.5 million and expects to top $20 million, will spend an undetermined portion of that cash in Senate races in seven states and in four House races.
All the candidates they will back supported a bill to expand background check requirements for gun buys that was defeated in the Senate, or co-sponsored a companion House measure that never received a vote. 'It's important that leaders from both parties who put their necks out there and showed some courage on the issue of gun violence prevention get to keep their job,' Kelly told reporters.

The group will back Democratic incumbent senators Mark Udall of Colorado, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Kay Hagan of North Carolina and Al Franken of Minnesota. It will also back Rep. Bruce Braley, a Democrat running for an open Senate seat in Iowa.
ARS will support just two Republicans, Susan Collins (R-Maine) who does not face a serious challenge, and Pennsylvania Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick.
It will back three House Democrats, Reps. Ron Barber of Arizona, a former Giffords aide who filled her seat, and Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Ann Kuster of New Hampshire.
