Angela Merkel ist nummer eins - yet again.

The German chancellor was cited Wednesday for the fourth straight year as the world's most powerful woman in the annual rankings compiled by Forbes Magazine.

Merkel, 59, was elected as her country's first female leader in 2005, and selected for the Forbes honor roll nine times in the list's 10-year existence.

Right behind Merkel at No. 2 was Janet Yellen, chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank, in her first appearance on the list.

The Top 10 was rounded out by a list of well-known names from philanthropy, politics and business.

Ranked third for the second straight year was Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, followed by Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde.

The second half of the 10 most powerful women, from sixth through 10th, included presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton; General Motors CEO Mary Barra; First Lady Michelle Obama; Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg; and IBM CEO Virginia Rometty.

'These impressive women from around the world continue to make a dramatic, lasting impact on our global footprint and in all aspects of our lives,' said Moira Forbes, president and publisher of ForbesWoman.
