Former American Idol winner Clay Aiken is holding on to a slim lead in the North Carolina primary race for the Second District U.S. House seat. The former singer turned hopeful politician only holds a very tiny lead of just over 350 votes at the time of this post. However, Clay is feeling very optimistic about his chances of winning not just the primary, but the general election in November as well.
'I said earlier tonight, I sort of preferred when they just open the envelope,' Clay Aiken told supporters on Tuesday night according to CNN, referring to his days on American Idol. 'I feel very confident that we are going to be victorious in November as well.'
While Clay may feel strongly about his chances in the general election in the fall, virtually no one else seems to believe he stands any chance of defeating Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers. She already easily won the Republican primary and is the overwhelming prediction to win her seat once again in November.
Clay Aiken's main challenger in the Democratic primary, Keith Crisco, said on Wednesday that he will wait until all the votes are counted and the election officials have filed their canvassing reports before he will consider conceding or possibly asking for a recount.
