ELOY, Ariz. - A skydiver was killed here Thursday while attempting to break a world record, officials said.
Authorities responded to a call about a skydiving accident at about 7:42 a.m. MST, according to Eloy Police Sgt. Brian Jerome.
A group of 222 skydivers were attempting to break a world record this week, about 60 miles southeast of Phoenix. The members were representing 28 different countries.
Officials are not yet identifying the skydiver but are investigating the cause of the incident, Jerome said.
This is not the first time this has happened in Eloy as part of a record-breaking skydive effort.
In early December 2012, two men were killed during a mid-air collision while skydiving.
The skydivers were part of a different group of 200 members also attempting to break a world record.
