KENT, Ohio - A gunshot has been fired at a northeastern Ohio university, and police are seeking the shooter.
A Kent State University spokeswoman says a male suspect fired the shot into the ground Wednesday night near Bowman Hall, an academic building on the university's main campus. No injuries have been reported.

The university advises people to shelter in place while police search for the shooter, who was carrying a silver handgun.

Kent State is a public research university located in Kent, a city of about 30,000 residents less than an hour's drive southeast of Cleveland. The university has eight campuses around the northeast Ohio region. The campus in Kent is the largest.
