Rep. Trey Gowdy says newly released emails linking the White House to the Benghazi talking points have proved what Republican suspected all along about the administration's role misleading the American people on the terror attack.
'It's a compelling piece of evidence that the White House was preoccupied with spinning their policy more so than they were telling the American people the truth,' the South Carolina Republican said 'America's Newsroom' Wednesday.
'There was nothing to support this narrative other than a desire to defect attention away from their feckless foreign policy.'
The emails, which were released as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, suggest a senior White House aide played a central role in preparing former U.N. ambassador Susan Rice for her controversial Sunday show appearances where she wrongly blamed protests over an Internet video.
Gowdy stressed that the biggest and most frustrating concern is how long it took to see the emails and how many more pieces of evidence may still be out there.
'This email came because of a court action by a private entity,' he said. 'After 20 months, Congress still doesn't have the emails, and apparently we're not willing to do anything to force the administration to give us these emails.'
'If this email existed for 20 months and we just got it, what else exists that we don't know about?'
