20 New Assault Charges Brought Against SXSW Crash Suspect


With confirmation this morning from the Travis County district clerk's office, the is reporting that 20 new charges have been filed against Rashad Charjuan Owens, the suspect in the March 13 crash during South By Southwest outside the Mohawk at 9th Street and Red River.


The specifics of each charge are as followed:


Each new charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony that carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years. A judge set bail at $100,000 for each new charge adding to the $3 million bail already listed for a charge of capital murder... Each new charge is connected with an individual victim either hurt or killed in the deadly crash.

Owens, who was driving to elude APD 'police lights' with a blood-alcohol level of .114, killed four and injured 17 when he smashed his car through a police barricade and into a crowd gathered outside the Mohawk in the early hours of March 13.


Two of the deceased later died from their injuries in the hospital; the latest being 18-year-old Deandre Tatum of Fort Worth.
