Lucie Wicker is a fitness photographer in the Boston area. Earlier this year, she started a photo project, called 'Why I Run: A Boston Marathon 2014 Project' with the idea of shooting portraits of a few of her friends who are training to run the 2014 Boston Marathon, and to also find out why they are running. The project has now expanded to include photos of friends-of-friends and others who are living and training in Boston.
One of the runners featured in the project, Nikolas Franks, is a former first-grade teacher who taught Martin Richard, who was killed in last year's Marathon bombings, and Martin's younger sister, Jane, who lost a leg. Franks is running to raise money for the Richard family foundation. Other runners featured in the project talk about their love of running and their love for the city.

'Even though the Marathon is held in the spring, most of the training happens during some of the worst ... of the year, making their commitment particularly admirable and impressive,' said Wicker. 'Being from the city, this year holds a special place in these runners' hearts (and mine too) so I'm sure it will be especially fulfilling.'
Wicker's photographs will be on display at sweetgreen Restaurant on Boylston Street - at the Marathon's finish line - throughout April. You can see the entire project online at luciewickerphotography.com.
