After 27 years a mysterious Burger King delivery finally has a heartwarming ending.
Just three weeks after 'Burger King Baby' Katheryn Deprill posted a heartfelt plea for help finding her biological mother who abandoned her as an infant in a restaurant, they met for the first time Monday.
'I got the hug that I had wanted for the last 27 years, and that broke the ice,' Deprill gushed after their mother-daughter meeting in Allentown, Pa. 'She is better than anything I could've ever imagined. She is so sweet and amazing. I'm so happy.'
Deprill's joyful answer to life-long questions about her own identity caps what became a nation-wide search for her mother.
'Looking for my birth mother,' read a sign held up by Deprill in a Facebook photo on March 2. 'She abandoned me in the Burger King bathroom only hours old, Allentown PA. Please help me find her by sharing my post.'
Deprill's mother, whose name has not been revealed, was described as coming across the photo almost immediately, but being at first too nervous on what to do.
It 'scared mom a bit,' Attorney John Waldron, who facilitated the meet, told WFMZ. 'She didn't want to be in the limelight.'
Still Waldron said that the mother had already wanted to find her daughter she had at the age of 17, and had previously talked to her husband about doing so.
According to Waldron, the story of Deprill began after her mother was raped while traveling abroad.
He said that undergoing an abortion wasn't an option for the teen. Neither, she believed, was letting her parents find out.
She delivered the child secretly before deciding to drop it off at the Burger King restaurant.
'She left me somewhere she knew I'd be found. She did not want to throw me away,' Deprill told WFMZ.
There workers found the child wrapped in a sweatshirt with her umbilical cord still attached.
Deprill said her mother 'was extremely upset that she had to leave me and it wasn't what she wanted, but she felt she had no other means. She was only 17 years old.'
Tagging along for their family reunion on Monday were Deprill's seven-month-old son Jackson and her adoptive mother.
Deprill said her biological mother expressed wanting to play a role in life and hopes they meet again soon.
'We are definitely going to have a relationship,' said Deprill.
