At least three people were dead and three critically hurt after a fire tore through a two-story motel on the New Jersey shore early Friday, authorities said.
Firefighters began battling the wild flames inside the Mariner's Cover Motor Inn at Point Pleasant Beach soon after the blaze was reported about 6 a.m., authorities said.

Several guests were injured as they scrambled from their rooms inside the hotel, located just blocks away from the beach, according to WABC-TV.

Emergency workers found three bodies soon after the flames were extinguished. Authorities said they are still searching the smoldering remains of the motel for other possible victims.
Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
