(TRNS) - The DNC is using a potential political scandal involving New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) to gin up financial support from donors.
In an email to supporters Wednesday night, Democratic National Committee Communications Director Mo Elleithee warned that the decision by top aides to Christie to close down traffic lanes near the busy George Washington Bridge shows that the rumored 2016 GOP presidential hopeful is 'spiteful.'
'This may have started as a local news story about a traffic jam, but it's so much more,' said Elleithee. 'It's about who Chris Christie is, and the kind of spiteful, costly, and damaging failures of leadership Americans can expect from him.'
Before the next campaign starts, we need to make sure that Americans across the country know the real Chris Christie, and that Democrats have the resources to keep him out of national office,' Elleithee added.
Christie yesterday denied responsibility for the lane closures, which happened back in early September. He'll hold a press conference in Trenton at 11:00 am today to discuss the story.
