A trigger-happy tyke shot her 4-year-old cousin dead in what Detroit police are called a 'tragic, accidental shooting.'
The unidentified boy, 4, was fatally shot once with a rifle by his relative while the two children were at their grandmother's home, Detroit police said Friday.

'They were playing inside the house and found a loaded long-gun rifle,' 3rd Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson told the Daily News. 'In the midst of playing, the 4-year-old old shot the other 4-year-old.'
Police have yet to identify anyone involved in the shooting, including the victim and young shooter, Johnson said.

The grandmother had left the children under the watch of a family friend. Police Capt. Rodney Cox told the Detroit Free Press that 'preliminarily, this does not appear to be responsible gun ownership' and the department has yet to determine if the adults will be charged.
Neighbors expressed shock and horror over the Thursday afternoon tragedy.

'I was just devastated,' neighbor Dorothy Jameson, 77, told the Free Press. 'I was wondering why two 4-year-olds have access to a gun in the first place.'
Two adults who live at the home - unrelated to the horrific incident - have open felony warrants and are currently being questioned, Johnson said.
