Auburn RB Tre Mason declares for 2014 NFL Draft

Auburn's lead back will leave the school on a high note. How early could he be drafted in May?

Auburn running back Tre Mason, who rushed for 195 yards in the Tigers' 34-31 loss in the BCS title game against Florida State, announced on Thursday that he will enter the 2014 NFL Draft. Mason, who broke Bo Jackson's single-season school rushing record by running for 1,816 yards this season, said he received a third round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board, and that was apparently high enough for him to forgo his senior season.

Mason rushed for an SEC Championship Game record 304 yards in Auburn's win over Missouri, and some say in the national championship, he was better than even Heisman-winning quarterback Jameis Winston. He gained at least 100 yards rushing in each of his last six games, and scored at least one touchdown in all but one game in 2013, as Auburn stunned everyone by going from 3-9 the previous season to nearly winning the national championship.

The 5'10, 205-pound junior is ranked 13th among running backs in Mocking the Draft's 2014 NFL Draft rankings.
