'I'm not running for president, and I plan to serve out my term,' Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Wednesday.

Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Wednesday she would not run for president in 2016.

'I'm not running for president, and I plan to serve out my term,' Warren told the Boston Herald.

'I am working as hard as I can to be the best possible senator I can be,' she added.

Earlier this year, politicos across the U.S. had quietly started to float Warren's name as a potential 2016 Democratic alternative to former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is widely expected to run and would be the frontrunner if she decides to do so.

The speculation came to a crescendo last month after a profile of Warren in New Republic magazine suggested a growing number of progressive activists were pushing the liberal Bay State senator explore a bid.

Warren has repeatedly told reporters that she doesn't plan to run in 2016.
