The family of the brain dead teen is considering moving their daughter under the care of some religious groups who offered help to keep her on life support.Jahi McGrath, 13, from Oakland, was presumed to be brain dead after suffering from complications as a result of her tonsil surgery. The Children's Hospital of Oakland has already made their decision to remove the life support for her but Judge Evelio Grillo of Alameda County Superior Court ruled that an outside expert should examine the patient to decide whether to continue the restraining order or not.
According to a USA Today report, the McGrath family has been receiving offers from religious groups to take in Jahi and continue her life support system. Christopher Dolan, the family lawyer, said that a religious group based in New York is one of those who made the offer. This organization claimed to be committed on a 'concept of life.'
These organizations had expressed their interest in helping the family who's been fighting to keep the teen on life support. Jahi's mother has filed a lawsuit to prevent the Children's Hospital to remove the life support of her daughter which includes an IV line and ventilator.
However, the family is still thinking about the option because there were different factors to consider such as the cost of her healthcare over time, as life support systems are somewhat costly. Another is that experts already told them that she had virtually zero chance of recovering from coma.
The family celebrated Christmas Day on Jahi's hospital room where they put up decorations and a Christmas tree.
'They are going to start having those discussions as a family today,' Dolan told USA Today. 'They are very difficult, heart-wrenching decisions, obviously, and they need time among themselves to figure out what they're going to do. They'll come to those decisions in their own time.'
A public battle has ensued after a family of a 13-year old girl and their local hospital disagreed on what constitutes 'brain death'.
