WASHINGTON - Speaker of the House John Boehner said Thursday that some House Republicans are not sufficiently 'sensitive' when it comes to running against female candidates and appealing to women voters.
The National Republican Congressional Committee and Boehner's office are trying to train Republican candidates and members to speak appropriately around female opponents, Politico reported Thursday, in the hopes of prevent another Todd Akin-style flame out that might cost them a seat.
'We're trying to get them to be a little bit more sensitive,' Boehner said when asked about the efforts at a press conference Thursday. You know, you look around the Congress, there're a lot more females in the Democratic caucus than their are in the Republican caucus. And some of our members just aren't as sensitive as they ought to be.'
Asked if Boehner felt his members were 'making progress,' Boehner said: 'I do.'
